The project arose from the simple desire to see the cycle of poverty, desperation and human misery, broken in the slums of the Dominican Republic. When we saw what life was like for the street children of Puerto Plata, we knew we had to make a difference. In this orphanage are more than 22 children and is governed by a director, Joel Peña, his wife, Maria de Pena, with the help of his son, Joel Jr. They have the support of several workers. The children come mainly from families where the father died and mother, but also care for children from poor families who can not take care of it. The children attend school regularly to the levels that correspond to their age and stay in the orphanage. They admit children of all religions and races, many are from the neighboring country of Haiti, despite the lack of resources, life in the orphanage is like a family, children are cared for, clean, have a home, attend school, have a roof and affection of all those responsible for the orphanage. Children are responsible of the few things that have clothing, cleaning supplies, school materials and actively participate in the daily work helping in the kitchen, sweeping or tending the family vegetable garden. There is a strict control of children with cards, immunizations, birth date, weight, etc. Food, in the austerity of the place, this study with weekly menus so that no problems of malnutrition, so frequent in this area. Our orphanage is a transit home for children and adolescents in a state of physical and moral neglect. This gives them food, education, training, company, among many other things. This center is located in the city of Puerto Plata and works with children and adolescents at social risk, those with different and varied problems, many are orphans, others have suffered domestic violence and many have been abandoned by their parents. Working with them enables you to learn more about the problems of poverty and social exclusion have resulted in this population highly sensitive and very vulnerable. But most will let you help, working with their rehabilitation and social reintegration giving them the opportunity to become a valuable human material for our society.

At the orphanage there is an administrative and operational staff, which cares for children and their integral development. It is the orphanage of children and adolescents, in the given accommodation, food, care, formal education, in addition to the care of their physical and mental health.
